Located in the historic Boulder Dam Hotel (built in 1933) just 30 minutes from Las Vegas and 15 minutes from the Hoover Dam, the Boulder City/Hoover Dam Museum traces the rich history of Boulder City, Hoover Dam and Lake Mead through a variety of interactive exhibits. The premises include a gift shop. Museum hours are 10 AM to 5 PM Monday through Saturday and 12 PM to 5 PM Sunday.
Located approximately 20 miles from Las Vegas, Boulder City is best known as the city that was created for the workers who built Hoover Dam. The town housed more than 4,000 workers during the construction of the dam, which lasted from 1931 to 1935. More than 1,500 permanent and temporary buildings were built to accommodate the needs of the construction workers, including 1,000 homes, a dozen dormitories, four churches, tourist centers, trade facilities, a grade school, a theater and recreation hall.
