702-494-2517 The majestic Hoover Dam, which created Lake Mead, was built during the Great Depression and completed in 1936. A National Historic Landmark, the Hoover Dam (named after President Herbert Hoover) weighs more than 6,600,000 tons and is 726.4 feet tall. Nearly one million people tour the Hoover Dam annually. The Hoover Dam Tour Center offers a variety of quality exhibits and is open daily from 9 AM to 6 PM (tickets sold until 5:15 PM) except for Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.
